a light-hearted attempt to imagine what might actually have caused God to create the universe and our world

In The Beginning Was The Word

In the beginning God was simply bored
He had to admit that was ‘The Word’
In the timeless void of a sizeless point long had He rested
But now even His endless patience was supremely tested
A thought: “What if?” Began to form within That Infinite Mind
“I might leave this pointless point behind?
Although I know not time, half an eternity here feels too long,
Forever ruminating somehow seems to be quite wrong!”
And with the sweeping gesture of an immanent hand
All that might ever be In space, or even yet on land
Seeded as a cosmic dust, propelled by Ultimate Power,
Flew forth, forthwith, in a super-heated particulate shower
And then God silently said ‘Let there be light!’
The first stars formed, and burned so very bright
They could not hope to last and when their time was over
(Each exploding as an incandescent supernova)
A new generation of Suns was resurrected
Around some of which adoring acolytes collected
So that from the chaos a semblance of order ensued
God was first to admit that what He saw was ‘Good’
And on some new born world He set in motion
A process that would see Life rising from an Ocean
Quite how He did this shrouded still in mystery
But for God, no longer bored, the rest is His story!
