a wet and gloomy day today…. 30/04/1025

End of April

Muted, miserable, pale-pewter grey
Barely one hundred metres away
Beyond the station but encroaching
A monstrous curtain of mist descends
Obscuring the fields like a Stephen King novella

Even Spring’s vivacious verdure hangs its head
Heavy with the weight of incessant rain
And only one avian voice is still raised in defiance
The Nightingale valiantly resisting the temptation
To succumb to the depression of this leaden gloom

But its brethren remain sequestered
Silent amongst the sodden foliage
Seated stolidly on their new-built nests
Insistently insulating their Easter-birthed clutches
Patiently praying for the return of the Sun
