The Price of Innovation

Kondratieff waved at me and said

“The world will change before you go to bed.

Before you sleep there will be many tears

And any remnant hope there is will

Come liberally spiced with untold fears.

Before you shuffle-off this mortal coil,

Mountains will crumble, Seas will boil

And all you’ve ever come-to-know

Will fall into disuse and disrepair.

Just like the ivy-laden grounds of

some long-abandoned, Fun-less-Fair;

Overgrown by new and wondrous things

That on one hand could mean we’ll gain

On both the Roundabouts and Swings

Or, mayhap more likely, we will be hoist

By the petard of our persistent Pride

The price of Sin no insoluble mystery

As Man is summarily consigned to the

Deep, dark, unforgiving realm of History.”
